Ellie's Story
From Westmead to Balmain: a career built on care
Two decades of hospital, private practice and remote community experience — all leading to one mission: gentle, accessible dental care for the whole family.
Where it all began: Westmead Centre for Oral Health
In 2001, Ellie was awarded a Dental Nurse Scholarship at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health, based at Westmead Hospital. For four days each week she worked alongside specialists across the hospital's periodontics, prosthodontics and implantology departments, while attending college one day a week. Over six years in these specialist departments, Ellie built a deep foundation in advanced dental care.
Becoming an Oral Health Therapist
Inspired by her eldest son, Ellie went on to complete a Bachelor of Oral Health at the University of Newcastle, qualifying as an Oral Health Therapist. She continued with postgraduate studies in Dental Therapy and Child Psychology, discovering a genuine passion for children's dentistry and for helping young patients feel safe, calm and confident in the chair. Alongside this, she provided periodontal assessment and therapy across several private practices.
Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands
Looking for a new challenge, Ellie completed a 12-week placement with AB Dental on Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, working under Dr Helen Vaughan, Head of the Christmas Island Dental Service. It was an unforgettable experience providing dental care to remote island communities.
Four years in Tasmania
Ellie then spent four years with the Northern Tasmania Health Service, working closely with children across the local community and further developing her expertise in paediatric dental care.
Coming home to open Tooth Fairy on Balmain
Eventually, Ellie returned to Sydney to fulfil a long-held dream of opening her own dental clinic. Watching her two sons grow into successful business owners gave her the confidence to take the leap and build something of her own. Today, Tooth Fairy on Balmain is a Medicare provider caring for children and adults, supported by a trusted network of specialists for anything beyond general dentistry.
